Welcome to my site

Hello, and welcome to my site. It's admittedly somewhat under-designed, but it's a work in progress. I am an American, a resident of the web, and a supporter of political, economic and cultural reform. Here I include links to my reviews of certain popular books and works in other media that I think are especially relevant to our times.

As for myself, until recently I was employed full -time as an educator at a public university. I was laid off over the summer, and since then I've been trying to support my family partly on unemployment insurance, until my new business gets off the ground. The point is that I blame the layoffs on the state budget deficit, which in turn was a result of the collapse in property values, which itself was caused in large part by speculation by financial institutions using complicated derivatives that no one apparently understood. These same financial institutions were later bailed out by the Federal Government using my tax money, and paid themselves large bonuses, taken out of my paycheck, back when I still got one. In addition, my house is now underwater- I owe more than it's worth.

So basically someone gambled with my money, without telling me, and I lost.

I'm a little upset about that, but instead of suffering silently, I decided to educate myself on economic policy, and to share my learning with others, so that we can all make better informed decisions the next time we vote. Mostly, this will take the form of book reviews that I have written, and eventually short essays on my thoughts regarding what we should do about all this now. My purpose in writing such reviews is not so much to summarize a book, as it is to explain the concepts that the authors wanted to share, to do my small part to help educate the public regarding issues that affect everyone.

To the left, you will see the various areas available at this site. They include the book reviews, and a forum area. There is a contact form in the forum area,  if you want to send a message to me.

Thank you for coming here, and I hope you enjoy your stay.
